How the 2025-2026 Tax Calculator Works

1. Understanding Marginal Tax Rates

Canada uses a progressive tax system. This means you don't pay one single rate on all your income. Instead, your income is divided into "brackets." As you earn more, only the portion of income in the higher bracket is taxed at the higher rate.

2. Provincial vs. Federal Tax

Our tool calculates both your Federal tax and your specific Provincial tax (e.g., Alberta, Ontario, BC). Each province has unique brackets and basic personal amounts that change every January.

3. The 2026 RRSP Deadline

To reduce your 2025 tax bill, you must contribute to your RRSP by March 2, 2026. Our optimizer shows you exactly how much "tax alpha" you gain for every dollar contributed.

4. Basic Personal Amount (BPA)

For 2026, the federal BPA has been indexed to inflation. This is the amount of income you can earn before you start paying any federal income tax at all.
